Most modern three-row SUVs offer two bench seats to maximize seating, and to make it easier and cheaper to produce. However, certain models--like the 2018 Honda Pilot--offer a newer configuration that was designed for comfort, and they swap out the second-row bench seat for two individual captain's chairs.

These chairs are built more closely to the classic bucket seats given to the driver and front passenger, and they offer a lot more support for longer drives than a flat bench seat. If you don't typically travel with more than three to four other passengers--or you'll only occasionally be carpooling with other adults--you'll want to consider this luxurious upgrade.

You can find captain's chairs on the feature list for new 2018 Honda Pilot trim levels and configurations.

The 2018 Honda Pilot Elite with second-row captain's chairs

While we hope that Honda may expand this feature in the future--maybe with the next generation--these stylish and ergonomic second-row captain's chairs are available only on the 2018 Honda Pilot Elite, the most well-equipped model in the lineup.

On the fence about upgrading to the Elite trim level?

Along with ultra-comfortable second-row seats (the captain's chairs boast heated seats upholstered in perforated leather), the 2018 Honda Pilot Elite also gives you leather-trimmed seats that are heated and ventilated in the front, an available a rear entertainment system, a sunroof, acoustic glass to reduce outside noise, a 10-speaker sound system, and a whole lot more.
